Decorative Vector Ornaments: Paper cut 023

Day 23 – Nearly a quarter of the way through this project based on the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book – and still going strong!

Haha – note the good old trick of using wisps-of-hair-across-the-face in order to physically connect the eyes and other features to the rest of the papercutting:papercut 023 with pen for scale

I’m not sure if it was the original design or a wayward cut on my part, but the lady seems a bit ‘bog eyed’, with both eyes pointing in different directions? Not sure if I can fix that very easily. I might try later to cut another tiny bit out of the corner of her right eye (as we look at her) to see if that helps, but no – I think she’s doomed. papercut 023 by LaserSister

This is Day 22 of this project based on the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book.

Not a bad effort!

The snake looks a bit lumpy close up, but I can change that later if I need to. And I’m not sure under what circumstances I would ever need a picture of a guy (Mercury/Hermes?) with caduceus and a winged helmet, but at least now I know that if I do have some sort of emergency requiring a papercutting of a Greco-Roman god then I’ve got one ready-made…

This is Day 21 of my project based on the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book.

Myeh – I’m not too keen on this one. Maybe I should have adapted the design to be a proper cut-out version instead of a ‘negative’ stencil-type cutting.

Closer up the cuts seem fairly jagged and scrappy. As with yesterday they can probably be fixed, but as it stands I just don’t find this one very pleasing:

This is Day 20 of my project based on the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book. This was a nice quick one that took less than twenty minutes to cut:

I can see quite a few flaws in it that really jump out at me, but they don’t bother me too much because they all seem to be fixable:

Decorative Vector Ornaments: Paper cut 016

Day 16 from my papercutting project from of the designs in the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book (as mentioned here.)

There wasn’t an easy way to connect the nose/lips to the rest of the paper, so I had to go for the old “add some extra tendrils of hair across the face” technique. Not sure it’s worked very well, but that’s what this papercutting quest is about, really: practising trying to adapt images so that they can be cut out without looking too contrived or clumsy. I might have another go later.
