Decorative Vector Ornaments: Paper cut 016

Day 16 from my papercutting project from of the designs in the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book (as mentioned here.)

There wasn’t an easy way to connect the nose/lips to the rest of the paper, so I had to go for the old “add some extra tendrils of hair across the face” technique. Not sure it’s worked very well, but that’s what this papercutting quest is about, really: practising trying to adapt images so that they can be cut out without looking too contrived or clumsy. I might have another go later.

Woohoo – I’m into double figures for my ongoing mission of adapting/cutting designs from the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book (as mentioned in this post.)

This one definitely needed a new blade, so I treated myself to a shiny replacement blade. Because of that the cutting went quite well, and I don’t think I accidentally cut or ripped any of it:

Decorative Vector Ornaments: Paper cut 009

This is Day 9 of my mission adapting/cutting designs from the “922 Decorative Vector Ornaments” book (as mentioned in this post.)

This one took nearly an hour to cut. I was using a fairly blunt scalpel blade, so I really should have changed it, but (1) I couldn’t be bothered, and (2) it feels a bit wasteful to change a blade every time I cut a new design.

When I start tearing and stretching the paper I know that it’s really time to change the blade. So I guess the next piece will be cut with a new blade. (See if you can spot where I accidentally ripped this one):
