Yesterday was a cardmaking day. It was technically part of my ongoing “An AI made me do it” project, because a few days earlier I’d asked ChatGPT to help me by creating some cards suitable for papercutting. (The idea with the AI project is that I’m using AI to give me inspiration for designs that I then turn into real physical objects.)
The next step was to import the designs into CorelDRAW so that I could “manually” adjust them:
ChatGPT is getting a lot better at creating papercutting designs from scratch, but I’ve still never come across a design that was 100% right on the first try. The one above was very good, but I still needed to adjust it so that I was completely happy with it.
After that, it was time to cut the card. This one was a “hybrid” cut (actually, all four of the cards were hybrids – i.e. I used a laser to score the white card (and also to cut out some pieces), but then I hand-finished the design by using a scalpel to cut out the rest.
This is what it looked like in the end:
(It looks a bit wonky because I deliberately only stuck the left side of the white card onto the front of the purple cardstock. That way it’s easier for the recipient to see that it’s a papercut, rather than white printed onto purple.)
I did the same with this card:
…and with this one:
The great thing about these number/letter cards is that now I’ve created (or collaborated in the creation of) them, I can re-use the designs.
The one below was different, though. That was a special commission for someone who is into cricket and golf and is 60:
